In the final week of our course at LTSB, we’re considering how we can get better at praising people, and praising God. When we know what “glory” is and how important it is, we can see how God can become visible and real to our colleagues. We’ll spend time praising God and reviewing what we’ve achieved during “Mission to Work”. Here are this week’s discussion notes, and here are the final course-related day notes.

Week 7 notes

This week we’re using what we’ve discussed so far and thinking about our experiences of service – what makes great service, how does it make us feel to be served well, and how can we serve others? Here are this week’s discussion notes - they contain a lot of reading and reference material, so they’ll look like heavier going than some weeks, but we’re going to spend more time discussing and swapping stories than studying. The notes can come in handy for later! Here are the day notes which will help us to apply what God is telling us in his word, so we can serve other people better.

We’re turning a corner now with “Mission to Work” – having looked in detail at who God is and who he has made us to be, and sought God’s will in prayer, we’re now getting very practical. So the notes are a bit different – we’ll be led by discussion in our meeting, and we have a few potentially useful things written down in advance. In this week’s session on Thursday 19 October, we ask “How can we know what God wants us to do?” It’s a question worth asking, because this kind of knowledge can change our lives. We’ll spend a little time discussing, and a lot of time praying, because this is the turning point in Mission to Work where we stop majoring on theory, and start getting into practical challenges. This week’s session on Thurs 12 October is about “The fruits of the Spirit” – we’ll discuss the difference between the things we try and do by our own nature, and the things we let God do through us as we look at Paul’s letter to the Galatians. This Thursday’s session on Oct 5 is called “What difference do I make?” – we discuss the difference between good and bad workplaces, the source of the strength God gives us to make a difference, and the practical things we can do which will get noticed. Mission to Work – adapted to work at work!

Originally designed to be taken by church colleagues to change the church's view of work, Mission to Work is now being discussed as something work colleagues can do together to bring their spiritual life right into the workplace.

To meet the needs of a workplace, we've adapted the course structure into 8 x 40 minute meetings, and taken the opportunity to revise some of the material from the first run of the course at Pip'n'Jay.

Come back soon to find the a new revised version of the bible study notes to accompany a work-based course, in a "Day Notes" diary-like format with short inspirational quotes and lots of space for each participant to record their thoughts and ideas.

Fourth week bible study notes

Click here for the final bible study notes for "Mission To Work". They are about service – who we serve, why and how. Service is about meeting needs and wants. Serving God, doing what he wants, has to come first, and obedience to God directs us to serve other people. God served us first by providing for our needs. Jesus set the ultimate example of serving people by understanding what they need and working to meet their needs. We are to serve as Jesus did, out of obedience to God and looking to give him the credit. Self-centred service is attractive but ultimately drains us and misses the point. God-centred service is sustainable for as long as God wants us to serve, and it is how God made us to live.
